How Does A Vacuum Cleaner Work?

    Working 

    The working of the vacuum cleaner is based on the following steps relating to every part. Thus work of every part collectively accomplishes the cleaning process efficiently

    Negative Pressure

     A vacuum works just like taking a sip from a straw As you suck the air out, the juice from the glass takes its space. As you create a space of empty matter while sucking the air out. And every matter has the ability to occupy the space the juice will take the space and move upward and into your mouth continually as you suck. This action of sucking creates negative air pressure inside the pipe lower than the atmospheric pressure.  Now apply this theory to the vacuum cleaner.

    Electric Motor

    • A vacuum cleaner has an electric motor that does the same job as your mouth. The motor consist of a fan with sharp blades on its edges. When you plug in the motor and turn the switch on the electric outlet supplies energy to the motor. The fans start to rotate. 
    • The rotating fan creates a vacuum and causes the air force forward towards the exhaust port. 
    • Any dust that comes within the range of the suction of the nozzle of the intake port pulled into the pipe.
    • The density of tiny dust particles becomes high in front of the fan and low behind the fan. 
    • The pressure of air behind the fan drops down than the atmospheric pressure just like the pressure drops in the straw when you sip from your drink. This creates a partial vacuum  Thus the air from outside enters in vacuum cleaner through the intake port.
    • This ambient air pushes itself inside the intake port because the suction creates negative air pressure. the air pressure is low inside the vacuum than the atmospheric pressure.
    • And in this way, the machine collects the dirt particles through the process of friction
    • To continue the suction process there is an exhaust port that vents the air out the other side allowing the motor to continue functioning normally.

    Filters

    The air, however, does not just pass through and ejected out through the exhaust port. If this occurs then it would be very harmful to people and cause many health effects. Vacuum not only picks up the dust and debris but also remove those tiny fine particles that could not be seen through the naked eye. These filters are specialized to extract these particles if inhaled in large amounts cause many health effects like asthma, breathing problems and many other lung problems. Some vacuums have a special type of filter known as HEPA filters. HEPA filters are able to collect about 99.7% allergens and pollen from the air. These filters have very tiny pores of about 0.3 microns in size. These filters are essential for those people who are allergy suffers.

    Although all vacuum cleaners work on the same principle of creating negative air pressure using a fan to generate suction to trap all dust particles. This happens due to the presence of an electric motor in all vacuums. However, the power of vac is determined not by its motor but also the size, kind and shape of intake port and other extra attachments.
